IDR - BEST MAN FOR LEAD REPRESENTATIVE IS CERTAINLY EFFENDI NORWAWI SAYS JG!
May 30, 2007 on 2:07 pm | In General | Comments OffHe is certainly the best!
I am not the least surprised that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, dear friend, Datuk Seri Effendi Norwawi (see pix above) is Malaysia’s lead representative in the special committee for Iskandar Development Region (IDR).
I have also very high regards for his Singapore counterpart in the committee, which was set up to implement decisions made by Malaysia and Singapore for the region, is National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had made the right choice as Datuk Seri Affendi comes with vast experience and knowledge.
He will also tolerate no nonsence in all deliberations which is vital for the projects success!
I am certain that Effendi would involve relevant government officials during committee discussions and meetings and also call upon those of us on this part of the divide to provide vital and strategic feedbacks!
For the record, I am advised that this special committee was not taking on a ‘consultative role’ but would look at implementation issues of the decisions made by Malaysia, particularly Johor and Singapore.
Yes it would certainly look at things like how to implement the smart card for travellers from Johor to Singapore and vice-versa so that people can travel easily and smoothly without queuing up for hours!
Among the points for consideration I am certain is looking into joint tourism promotions and matters leading to the environment!
For now - I sincerely wish dear friend Effendi all the best and personally offer my services whenever called upon!
PRICE HIKES AND PROFITEERING - OUR ACTIONS NEEDS CLARITY AND CONSISTENCY SAYS JG!
May 30, 2007 on 12:07 pm | In General | Comments OffI am glad to note that the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry officers have fined 16 coffee shops and restaurants for increasing food and drink prices.
Yes - KPDN’s Sabah deputy director Mohd Ismail Yunus has stated that their action followed an “aggressive” eight-hour operation on yesterday on more than 52 premises which were checked for selling their goods at a price higher than what was displayed.
However, he did not disclose the amount of the compound fines!
In the raid - officials seized food items from the shops and ordered the operators to bring the price of food and drinks back to the original price.
The price increases were from 20 to 30 sen for drinks and up to RM1 for some food items.
Now we should emulate this here in the peninsula and I am glad to hear from Minister Shafie (pix above) that he is going after the middlemen also.
I am really glad as I had pointed out in my interviews with tabloids KOSMO, Harian Metro, in televsion interviews on TV3, NTV7 that we should declare a war on the importers and distributers as well, not just the end seller!
Our actions need clarity and consistency!
Enough said!

ASTRO UNDER FIRE AGAIN!
‘Dear Sir,
I have purchased and installed an ASTRO Digital Multimedia Terminal on 2/12/2006 which was packaged with a RM50 BSN premium.
The said transaction was done by M/s Pusat Elekronik Megatari Sdn. Bhd in Tun Aminah, Skudai, Johor Baru.
After about a month of waiting in vain for the BSN premium voucher, I called the Vendor
a few times given the understanding that after the said sale, ASTRO was supposed to deal directly with the customer regarding the BSN premium voucher.
I have email to ASTRO several times and its auto reply message promised to reply within 5 days.
One of ASTRO staff ever called and replied that we should refer the said matter to the Vendor.
I called the Vendor but they replied that ASTRO should be handling the process for BSN premium voucher and that they are not responsible.
After nearly five months, I regret to conclude that both the Vendor and ASTRO are not sincere in this matter as they kept passing the buck and let the Customer be at the losing end.
Thank you.

ARE MPS ROLE MODELS FOR NATION?
May 23, 2007 on 12:58 pm | In General | Comments Off
I am really glad that our beloved Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has asked members of parliament and senators to tick off people who smoke at Parliament House which has been gazetted as a non-smoking premises.
The prime minister stated that the ban on smoking was gazetted under Regulation 11 (1) (h) of the Tobacco Revenue Control Regulations 2004, which clearly states that smoking was prohibited at any government premises.
Abdullah felt that if MPs find there are people still smoking inside Parliament House, they should be ticked off!
The PM was seeking the MPs cooperation after Senator Wan Ubaidah Omar asked the prime minister whether the Parliament House would be gazetted as a non-smoking premises to serve as a model to the people.
The question was indeed strange and shows how stupid most of our MPs are unware or ignorant of the above mentioned regulation!
The truth is they should be aware and uphold the call but are they?
And are our present crop of MPs truly a role model for the Nation, let alone for their respective religions?
Your guess is as good as mine!
TONE OF MPS APOLOGIES ADDS INSULT TO INJURY SAYS JG!

TONE OF MPS APOLOGIES ADDS INSULT TO INJURY!
I refer to your report ‘Errant MPs apologize over Sexists Remark’.
The manner with which the “apologies were politically managed and extracted” from two reluctant and arrogant MPs two among several others sitting in the country’s highest forums brings nothing less than contempt among all right thinking Malaysians!
More so since the manner and tone of the apologies that were extracted were seen more to pacify the groundswell of anger and disgusts that were seen in and out of the country!
No where in their statements was there remorse or an acceptance that what they did and have been doing in the August house is frowned upon by all Malaysians irrespective of the political divide!
In fact they still had the audacity to state that their comments were to ‘defend the government during debates’ which is an insult to injury!
When attempting to ‘defend the government’ must one resort to vulgarity and is this a hallmark of the present leadership style and governance that preaches about transparency, good governance, accountability and the much lauded concepts of Islam Hadhari?
These two are mere political charlatans among others, whose continued presence as MPs would only bring shame, ridicule and contempt to the Abdullah Administration!
However, we must not forget that there were others too and among them another whose statement borders on ‘plain stupidity’ in this age and time that the two MPs comments were ‘part of the parliamentary debates and that both MPs uttered the words during the heat of their debate and that one cannot control people’s emotions”.
Of course, I realize in our political culture and context despite a 50 year history, we may not have the culture of courage, conviction and religious grace to ask the two to voluntarily resign as MPs or better still sack them!
We are aware of the ‘fear of by-elections’ at this juncture where the administration is confronting with many challenges and unending allegations of mismanagement, corruption and lack of direction!
Why provide a platform to those ridiculing the government?
Fair enough – but the Abdullah administration must take into cognizance that we must ‘act honorably’ when our MPs misbehave and there is no two ways about that!
If we want to be respected at home and abroad, we must show respect, more so, in this August house.
There is no necessity to misbehave, to utter statements and comments that are vulgar, an abuse or sheer stupidity!
The next General Election may not be far away and it is pertinent for the image of Malaysia, the Barisan Nasional (BN) and more so, beloved Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi that the selection process for MPs and State Assemblymen be stringent enough to differentiate between academically qualified statesmen and pure political charlatan, jesters and thugs!
PRICE INCREASE - ASTRO UNDER FIRE FROM CONSUMERS!
May 18, 2007 on 1:52 pm | In General | Comments OffASTRO UNDER FIRE!
‘Dear Sir,
We are very disappointed to learn that Astro intends to increase the price of my present subscription package “Family + Learning + Sport + Variety” from the current RM49.95 to RM59.95 with effect from 1st June 2007.
Furthermore we were given to understand that if we wanted to maintain the present subscription fee of RM49.95, we would have to reduce one of the above sections such as Sport.
This is most unfair and contrary to our contract which clearly states my present subscription package as per above at a monthly fee of RM49.95 for 24 months from 7-Feb-2007 to 28-Dec-2008.
As such therefore, I wish to inform that Astro are not to increase my subscription rate or reduce my subscription package until after our contractual period which ends on 28-Dec2008.
After which date I would then decide whether to continue under the new rate, reduce my package, or to discontinue my subscription all together.
However should ASTRO go ahead and charge me RM59.95 per month in spite of our existing contract, then this contract will be considered null and void; and my current subscription would thus be automatically terminated. I shall not be responsible to pay anything to ASTRO.
Yours truly,

BERITA TERKINI DARI HARIAN METRO HARI INI! WANITA ASING JUAL BAYI LUAR NIKAH!
May 18, 2007 on 12:10 pm | In General | Comments OffWanita asing jual bayi luar nikah
FLIGHT DISPUTES - SETTLE THEM BEFORE IT HURTS!
May 16, 2007 on 3:38 pm | In General | Comments OffAIR WARS? - HOPEFULLY NOT!
Actually I am shocked that there are still morons given executive powers to run and manage companies/agencies but not surprised though!
So I am told that because of ‘foolishnesss and business greed’ flights could be disrupted from India to Malaysia.
To make matters worse - Indian civil aviation authority has warned of a ban on Malaysia Airlines if domestic carriers Air India Express and Air Sahara were not allowed to land in Kuala Lumpur multi billion ringgit airport the KLIA!
For the record, I rememeber that a similar dispute with Russia reached a flashpoint only yesterday threatening to halt air transport between the two countries, but was defused late on Tuesday evening thanks to quick thinking and crisis management skills.
There in that episode - Moscow had said Air India and Jet Airways should stop using its air-space for their flights to London and other west European destinations.
Retaliating New Dehli or more the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s civil aviation authority, had retaliated by threatening to ground flights of Russian carriers Aeroflot and Transco Airlines.
However, the issue was resolved after Russia agreed to allow Indian carriers to continue using its airspace.
However our problems remains unresolved and has the potential to hit flights of Air India and Jet Airways to Kuala Lumpur.
I am told that DGCA has already served a show-cause notice on Malaysia Airlines, threatening to stop its flights to India.
This dispute follows Kuala Lumpur’s refusal to allow Air India Express and Air Sahara to operate flights to Malaysia.
New Delhi had nominated these carriers to utilise part of the bilateral rights available to it. Air India Express’ parent company Air India and Jet Airways already operate flights to Kuala Lumpur.
But why this behavior?
Perhaps, it all comes down to ‘ringgit and sens and bodohism!’
You see - a large number of Indian tourists fly to Malaysia during the summer; holiday packages that combine visits to Malaysia, Singapore and Bangkok!
A section of the traffic to the US also flows through the Kuala Lumpur hub.
So perhaps, there is greed but let’s work this out intelligently!
CASSA KECEWA HARGA BARANGAN NAIK!

SAMY VELU DONE A LOT FOR THE INDIAN COMMUNITY!
May 15, 2007 on 12:17 am | In General | Comments OffSAMY VELU DONE A LOT FOR THE INDIAN COMMUNITY!
It is indeed hilarious to read the many ‘claims and counter claims’ of several ‘politicians and pseudo politicians’ here who seem to have come out of their ‘political wood works’ to make their seasonal statements and appearance prior to and post a by-election!
To a large extend, we have accepted this as a norm in our political circus, however, what I take exception is the attempt by some to suddenly claim to champion the rights and interests of Malaysian Indians!
What more to “politically rubbish” the efforts of those who have indeed contributed to the interest of Malaysian Indians, namely, the tireless efforts of MIC Party President and Works Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Samy Vellu.
This I personally find grossly unfair!
The last time I checked he was the only one who met and provided for the hundreds of Malaysian Indians with various ‘needs and wants’ from all walks of life at his home daily as early as 4 in the morning after providing them a hearty breakfast and transport money back!
The last time I visited the Ministry of Works, I cannot but state the same scenes were ‘the order of the day’ with no one leaving his office empty handed!
The last time I spoke to Indian university students here and abroad, all of them had nothing but praise and gratitude to this same man for assisting them to fulfill their educational desire.
The last time I spoke to several of my friends in the Malaysian cabinet, not one denied that at each and every meeting, the ‘plight and needs’ of the community are brought forward to the table of discussion in the manner and form of the Barisan Nasional module by none other than the MIC President and Works Minister!
And this was the same man who for decades had fought to better the community’s needs and as recently as during the Ijok by-election walked ‘himself to the ground’ meeting, listening and providing for the needs of all who sought his assistance despite enduring great physical pain.
By his actions and deeds, he puts to shame others much younger then him in the party and others outside who have the audacity to challenge him or yet attempt to discredit him for political gain when they have absolutely done nothing for the community to date or let alone the qualification to hold a candle to the said minister!
It is a fact that as an Indian community we are enduring several political hurdles and we do not deny them but they are being addressed in a manner only those within the party, the government and the BN Coalition will understand.
Whatever problems or needs of the Indian community are being discussed and focused on by the MIC leadership within the Barisan Nasional framework and we are certain in time we will solve them as we have in time past.
But, it is certainly ‘unfair and unethical’ to attempt to discredit the man who has in his own way fought and bettered the plight of Malaysian Indians.

’women usually the soft target of sexual predators!’
I am not surprised that the Immigration Department has called on the government to review the issuance of the visa-on-arrival once the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY’07) programme ends to prevent tourists from overstaying.
Its Enforcement Director, dear friend, Datuk Ishak Mohamed said more than half of the 36,701 holders of this type of visa had been found to have overstayed. For the record - a total of 20,481 tourists, mostly from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China and Bangladesh had misused the visa from Sept last year till April 30.
For the record again - the visa-on-arrival ‘ a tool of facility’ in my view which was good for VMY2007 was introduced for the convenience of tourists from 24 countries including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nigeria, Congo and Nepal who had only to pay RM100 for a one-month stay - but sad to say, there are some abusing it but do we call it off just because of a few bad apples?
But what I am troubled about was that his unit had uncovered a one-stop agency which offered services to “legalise” illegal workers with the arrest of a 28-year-old Bangladeshi man and a 22-year-old Indonesian woman at an apartment in Puchong!
The “joint-venture” between Bangladeshis and Indonesian women “of all sizes, ages and shapes” is not uncommon in Malaysia and it extend to our lasses too in many cases!
Many of them have found themselves pregnant and in dire straits unable to go back to Indonesia for fear of embarrassment (some of these women are married and have husbands & families)and going to Pakistan or Bangladesh with the “lover” - “husband” is no dreamboat again!
But here in this case - among the items confiscated from the agency were 15 Bangladeshi passports, 21 Nepal passports, 72 Immigration Department stickers and letterheads and immigration stamps.
Interestingly we are told that the agency offered foreigners who entered this country using legitimate passports on social visit passes to falsify their documents so that they could “work legally” here.
So according to Malaysian law, I am sure the two are to be charged for keeping other people’s passports without permission, an offence under the Immigration Act 1963, which carries maximum fine of RM10,000 for each passport or jail not more than five years or both, upon conviction.
But then again, this may be just a ‘tip of the iceberg’ where Bangladeshis are concerned?
I am sure there would be more such stories coming, which will soon embarass?

DENGUE HERE AGAIN AND WITH A VENGENCE?
May 3, 2007 on 3:11 pm | In General | Comments OffI have written several times on this matter but the sad part the problem thanks to the ‘indifference and institutionalized apathy’ never goes away!
So now we are again told that deaths from dengue in Malaysia have more than doubled in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period last year.
Interestingly the man who makes the remark is none other than one - Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman, who is the director of communicable disease control here!
And the statistics say that so far 44 Malaysians have died of dengue compared to 21 deaths from January to April last year.
The total number of cases reported in the first four months of this year also shot up to 16,214, compared to 10,244 in the same period last year.
I have already stated that the real cause is we have neglected to use the big ‘punitive stick’ on operators and controllers of construction sites, vacant land and in crowded squatter areas where basic intelligence will tell one that these are Aedes mosquito’s main breeding ground!
Hello Datuk Dr Hasan - it is poppycock to say you are concerned over the increase and that we need everyone to cooperate with the authorities to fight the menace when we have yet to see a nationwide plan of action in deeds instead of words!
No point asking contractors and land owners to step up their efforts to destroy such breeding grounds - they will never do it without punitive sanctions!
But I must agree that the Health Ministry had redoubled its efforts to stop the scourge.
I am advised that in April 2007 it issued 216 notices and fined 33 Malaysians nationwide for breeding Aedes mosquitoes.
The ministry collected a total of RM51, 750 in fines.
Among those fined were 14 factory owners and contractors who were supervising 10 construction sites around the country.
Never mind, I will need to speak to my dear friend, Health Minister, Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek (see pix below) soon on these and other matters, as I have full confidence that he will put matters like this on the fast track!
