MALAYSIA AT 51 - BUT HEADING WHERE? 

It is just not the ‘slogans and themes’ that the politicians are picking for this 51^st Independence Day celebrations that is ’so out of tune’ with reality on the ground but just everything you touch as a talking point!

And when this is brought before the man who claims to be the Prime Minister of all Malaysians – he shrugs it off as a petty grouse! 

‘a racist?’

How else can you interpret the racist comments from UMNO’S BUKIT BENDERA CHIEF - Ahmad Ismail who called Chinese Malaysians ungrateful “squatters” in this country during the recent by-election at Permatang Pauh where the Prime Minister’s party UMNO got another thumping! 

The fact remains that it was not just the Prime Minister’s party UMNO that got a thumping but also this ‘idiotic and foolish creature’ called Ahmad Ismail! 

His racist statement received timely harsh responses from both members of the opposition and component party members of the BN coalition! 

And what had Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi – (the man who claims in ‘repeated mantra’ that he is PM of all Malaysians) got to say about all this? 

Instead of admonishing this Ahmad Ismail – Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ‘defends him’ and says ‘Ahmad didn’t mean it’ (The Star August 31^st) and continues “I will tell him not to do it again’ (The Star August 31st)

The response from Abdullah is not new, Malaysians have come to accept it knowing that he has really disappointed all of us tremendously and how this man’s tenure will be interpreted by history and Malaysians will be no surprise!

We have seen and heard such after earlier attacks against fellow Malaysians from the infamous ‘Kris Affair’, the comments by three BN stooges in Parliament or at party meetings and at each of this all they received was a ‘slap on the wrists!’

If the same was stated by others – I believe they would have been charged with the Sedition Act or other penal provisions or new legislation drafted and fast tracked to punish those concerned! 

But are Ahmad Ismail and the ‘likes of him’ - ‘above the law’ – are they untouchables? 

But if Ahmad Ismail or the ‘likes of him’ want to debate his allegations - since we are all in the ‘debate mode’ – let us have a debate on who really contributes to the nation and who lives off it like parasites or as the term was used ‘squatters!’ 

The truth this August 31^st is we have failed miserably to make our country economically viable, successful and competitive! 

Politicians who are expected to lead have failed all of us!

Self serving politicians’ especially those like UMNO’s Ahmad Ismail must bear in mind that Malaysia with a population of just 27 million and now disunited is no threat in the coming globalization tsunami. 

Even a standard five student will tell you that we have lost sight of giants with whom we were at par once like Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and today countries that were backward Vietnam and Cambodia are keeping pace with us and about to overtake us – if they have not already! 

The truth is we are so caught up with racism, bickering, attacking friends within the coalition and others who are our partners in nation building, we failed to address skyrocketing corruption, abuse of political power, cronyism and nepotism! 

Instead of concentrating on our economy and bringing about a direction for the country we are plunging the nation into chaos with our political ‘tit for tats’ and our obsession with our political opponents! 

If only we show the same urgency that we fight our political opponents, the way we introduce the DNA Bill fast tracking and without debate at elect committee stage in reviving the economy or addressing the nation’s many woes and grouses – and – instead of further pronouncements and announcements – a clear action orientated plan not rhetoric – perhaps, just perhaps there may be light at the end of this rather dark tunnel!

KEEPING THEM HONEST - BUDGET 2009 DOES NOT STIR EXCITEMENT!

‘BUDGET 2009 – NO ONE SEEMS INTERESTED?’ 

For the first time in many years I said a plain – NO - to invitations from several media groups to participate in various discussions on Budget 2009!

Call it a sense of ‘hopelessness’ – call it the ‘body language’ (see pix below) of the PM as he delivered his budget speech, call it a ‘state of disbelief and shock’ at what is happening in the country as various groups try to outwit and politically maneuver each other in a greed for power not thinking what it is doing to over 27 million Malaysians and a country that in the past was a shinning beacon of modernization and progress! 

It is a fight to the finish – no holds bared as even all organs and media under political control are used in a mud slinging match! 

And indeed as expected the budget was presented with many goodies! 

If it was not that we had the elections only in March I would have stated it was an ‘election budget’ but the truth is - budget 2009 maybe a last ditch effort by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to stay in power! 

It is also a shame that of all persons - the PM ‘attacked’ Anwar Ibrahim in his budget speech confirming how ‘paronoid and fearful’ the ruling coalition has become after its massive losses at GE - March 8/2008 and more recently at Permatang Pauh with a larger majority despite the high powered political, legal and media onslaught on the latter!

But as a friend cited – it was a ridiculous budget – ‘all claims and announcements’ but how much will be achieved? 

Will the delivery system work or will we again see a bottle neck and non performance? 

It is ‘strikingly stupid’ as far as I can envisage no one has electricity bills below RM20.00! 

But the reality is – this year’s budget has indeed received so little national interest! 

Of course certain - ‘apple polishers’ will sing great praises as it is all part of Malaysia’s ‘bodekism!’

But as I said earlier - this year’s budget received no fanfare!

And the reason is the country is facing deep crisis and one that has to be dealt with by the speedy handing over the reins of the country’s leadership to a more competent leadership team! 

We should start with a unity government!

ACTION ON MALAYSIA TODAY - A TRAVESTY OF NATURAL JUSTICE!

While in India (the IT capital of the world) I was repeatedly asked by a wide cross section of people comprising retired judges, diplomats, human rights and civil liberty lawyers, politicians and ministers why my government had ‘transgressed a great sin’ by its decision to block access to the news portal Malaysia Today. 

They asked me whether this was another onslaught on civil liberties, tantamount to internet censorship, a desperate act by a government that was seeing repeated defeats and rejections by the vary demography that kept them in power for so long.

They wondered why the government refused to listen to the clear signals coming from the ground telling them that change was necessary – real change and one where the fundamentals of good governance, transparency, accountability, freedom of information, a rejection of racial, racist and religious bigotry is seen as a hallmark and pillar of democracy and one where political opponents are not targeted by newly coined legislation which is fast tracked and without the scrutiny of a select committee of independent legal and civil rights experts!

Yes indeed quite a mouth full!

To understand their concern you must see and be in India – to see how politics and independence of the various organs of government operate! 

You can see how any ordinary Indian citizen has access to decision making processes, billion dollar tender and award documents and contracts thanks to India’s Right To  Information Act 2005!

A legislation that makes certain that one cannot hide by dubious claims of national security and other fictional excuses whenever one is asked to be accountable and transparent to decisions involving millions of dollars.

And more certain that in India - you cannot smear a website seditious without giving the accused an opportunity to defend itself/themselves – a vary act that in all legally trained, politically mature and cultured minds is ultra vires!

I wonder if our great intelligentsia and intelligence community are keeping cognizance that the fact is once again we are showing the world that we show great contempt for the principle of fair play, accountability, good governance, transparency and natural justice for one’s political agenda and expediency!

It is a pity that – the ‘government-backed watchdog’ the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had ordered all internet service providers (ISPs) in the country to block this website.

In Parliament, Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar defended the said move, saying that Malaysia Today had been banned because it published “libelous, defamatory and slanderous” content.

Those were ‘his claims’ but as a trained lawyers we are expected to should show better judgment and needing to provide the evidence to prove our claims!

And in the mind of all law abiding and rational people this can only be derived after a comprehensive investigation is done y an independent group of investigators selected for their credibility, independence, and proven track record!    

The truth is as we celebrate the nation’s fifty first Independence Day, questions are asked whether Malaysians are really free or all that we have done is replace one dominating political entity, a draconian and unjust power with another.

A new dominating power that is doing massive damage to the image of the country by such blatant acts; unclothe political behavior, racist tendencies and outbursts and a clear travesty of natural justice just to remain in political power!

The pertinent question on everyone’s mind is this first step to curb further civil liberties, internet freedom and access to portals providing alternative views and stands?

A former Malaysian Finance Minister, I chatted with recently asked me:

What do you want this Malaysian Independence Day – August 31^st 2008?
I am certain just exactly what another over 24 million Malaysians want! (3 million others kept out – margin of error?)

And why do I want it?

I want the political bickering, the ‘tit for tat’, racism, abuse of religion for politics, and the abuse of all things religious, sacred and legal stopped!

The truth is our economy will be further jeopardized if the there is undue starving of federal funds to all states whether it is in federal hands or opposition.

Those watching us ‘from the outside’ will make sure they ’sat this one out’, more so when other countries in the region show more promise and are free from the ‘political directioness and uncertainties’ like we are facing)  so this will lead to shrinking of investments arising from further loss of investors’ confidence!

Already there are various allegations and among them, the issue of the rule of law?

I need not go into this – read the fig leaf!

The solution is just two but it takes a brave heart to put both into motion namely:

1.       there MUST BE A GENUINE REFORMS TO BRING THE NATION TO WHAT IT WAS PROUDLY ONCE - BEFORE THE ‘MAHATHIR ERA’ - POST INDEPENDENCE VIA CONSTITUTIONAL RULE and

2.       there is a need for A UNITY GOVERNMENT INITIATING A WELL PLANNED MOVE TOWARDS TRUE HOLISTIC NATIONAL UNITY AND TO SPEARHEAD ECONOMIC GROWTH AND CONFIDENCE IN THE COUNTRY FOR ALL MALAYSIANS IRRESPECTIVE OF RACE RELIGION, POLITICAL DIVIDE OR CREED!

CAN WE – WILL WE – SHOULD WE – MAY GOD ALMIGHTY HELP US!

OBAMA PICK - JOE BIDEN - A DONE DEAL!

 ’Obama brings in a foreign policy expert!’

Brillant - US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has finally announced that Joe Biden will be his running mate in November’s election!

‘the body language is just right!’

And the timing of this anouncement is also interesting, as Mr Obama’s choice, confirmed on his website, comes ahead of next week’s Democratic Party convention.

Mr Biden, a 65-year-old veteran lawmaker, has three decades of Senate experience and is highly respected on foreign policy issues - an area that Barack Obama was alleged to have apparent ‘weakness!’

Perhaps, we can all learn a thing or two from the way the Americans run their elections - in particular the need for transparency, accountability, good governance and most importantly - to be credible!

Fact No: 1 -

The International Olympic Committee has ordered an investigation into the age of Chinese gymnast He Kexin.

There are growing allegations with almost insurmountable evidence which suggests that He is two years younger than the birth date listed on her Chinese passport and if the IOC inquiry finds the allegations true – it will result in the stripping of He’s gold medals.

The end result if all these are true is simply that Beijing 08 will not be remembered for its huge success but for a massive government attempt to cheat the international community violating the spirit of the games and a blatant cover-up when caught, not the magical Opening Ceremony or the transformation of Beijing or anything else positive.

All the good work China did to put on these Olympics will be forgotten because of an unnecessary, overkill, an arrogant and foolsih move by the Chinese government when they decided to risk everything by putting a 14-year old in the competition when they could have replaced her with an of-age 16-year old gymnast?

A mistake many governments around the world make when they become arrogant, dominating, irresponsible, corrupt, undemocratic, racists, dictatorial, greedy or when just plain stupid!

KEEPING THEM HONEST - GAS PRICE DOWN ALL TO DEFEAT ONE MAN AT A BY-ELECTION? WHAT A SHAME!

It is fast becoming a joke when policy ‘flip flops’ are initiated just to win elections!

And ‘true to form’ just days before that important by-election in Permatang Pauh where ‘he who must be destroyed at all cost’ (see pix left) is contesting - another move is made to try to fish for votes but it will again backfire like all the other stupid ventures!

So it is announced that price of RON97 petrol will go down by 15 sen from RM2.70 to RM2.55 per litre at the pumps beginning midnight.

Meanwhile, the lower grade RON92 petrol will be slashed by 22 sen from RM2.62 to RM2.40 a litre.

For diesel, the price will go down by eight sen, from RM2.58 to RM2.50.

Yes - Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi made the announcement today - two days after he reiterated that petrol prices would not be cut before Aug 31.

According to political analyst - the ‘ones who are not in jail facing murder chargers’ - it is believed that the annoucement was made ahead the crucial by-election in Permatang Pauh to be held next Tuesday!

But in my book again - ‘too little too late’ and after too many ‘flip flops’ and ‘high powered drama’ - the kind that makes even a strong BN supporter just shake one’s head in disbelief at the kind of stupidy that is coming out of those who claim they are leading and want to continue to lead - but where to?

More so, when they all ‘gang up’ against one man - this is not right by any call - this is a ‘witch hunt’ - this is a disgrace by any standards!

KEEPING THEM HONEST - PKRS’s ZULKIFLY NORDIN SHOULD BE MAN ENOUGH TO RESIGN!

THE ONLY HONORABLE THING LEFT FOR YOU TO DO IS RESIGN AND ALLOW THE MASSES IN KULIM-BANDAR BAHARU DECIDE IF YOU SHOULD AGAIN REPRESENT THEM- WHAT SAY YOU MAN?

In my mind, whether PKR plans to take action against its member of parliament for Kulim-Bandar Baharu over the latter’s role in the disruption of the Bar Council’s forum on conversions to Islam held on Aug 9 or not the damage - huge damage has been done!

I have alot of respect for PKR’s deputy president, Dr Syed Husin Ali who has gone on record to say that the initial mystery over Zulkifli’s whereabouts and by-election exigencies have “unavoidably contributed” to the delay in PKR’s action against its errant MP.

But I must advice my dear friend  Syed Husin (see pix) that the time for ‘disciplinary action’ is long gone but what is needed is to show forth that such despicable behavior cannot/will not be tolerated in the  party!

The said MP must be asked to resign and for a by election to be held and for the masses to decide!

I am not citing this because Khairy Jamaluddin, the Umno Youth deputy leader and MP for Rembau has stated that PKR’s apparent inaction over Zulkifly’s conduct and the latter’s continued fulminations against the Bar Council boded ill for ideological coherence and constitutive cohesion of Pakatan Rakyat - the opposition coalition that groups PKR, DAP and PAS but KJ has raised ‘real issues’ that must be deliberated and not just swept under the carpet in all fairness!

I was among those who witnessed this individual’s despicable conduct, the abusive language and his behavior which was repugnant to democratic norms of any democractic sphere.

In fact he shows no repentance, no form of having any regrets for his actions but continues his criticism against the Bar Council and others involved in intelligent, rational, fair and reasonable discussions of issues that confronts all Malaysians!

He created an atmosphere that was ‘violent and vulgar in nature’ that threatened the ‘lives and limb’ of those who were attending a forum behind closed doors of a lawfully registered organization and in their private premise!

His actions brought shame and smear to Malaysia as this report and the pictures had made way around the globe!

Zulkifly Nordin has brought irreversible shame and damage and for that nothing less than his resignation is worthy!

KEEPING THEM HONEST - BLAME POLITICIANS NOT BLOGGERS!

( A PM in denial?)

The nation is in distress and shame watching political ‘tit for tats’ - enduring the intelligence testing trial of a high powered internationally watched gruesome murder trial followed closely by attacks by fanatics and others on the rights and interests of minority Malaysians, among them the attempt on the Catholic newsletter telling Malaysian Christians what they should believe in, pray for and write and discuss about in a newsletter that circulates among this Christian group!

If this is not bad enough, we have growing allegations of a rather weak directionless government, of soaring corruption, of abuse and manipulation of various tiers of government for political agendas which includes the trumped up chargers against a prominent political foe!

While the people are worried at costs of living soaring and other unattended grouses - the focus seems to be at just ‘plain unadulterated politics of attacking and destroying political foes’ - even in sports as was seen the manner opposition led states were bypassed in the national SUKMA GAMES or even in matters related to the country’s tourism!

There is capital flight, investors moving out and on, Malaysians thinking aloud of migrating, soaring crime statistics and instead of addressing these concerns we have ‘leaders’ who make various self proclaimation of themselves and instead indulge in ‘diversion tactics’ in an age where thanks to technology and the world being a global village these attempts are speedily exposed for what they are really!

The manner and speed chargers are filed be it for criminal defamation or sedition - has caused irreversible damage in the minds of all Malaysians!

Now any honest person will deal with the reality on the ground but not those in lead positions today which makes me extremely ashamed as I had in time past always defended them against at times all odds both at home and abroad!

So I take this latest comment against a blogger rather seriously for the resaons I have already stated - if YOU have not noticed there are far more important challengers and dirt that has to be addressed in the country rather than your personal spin and instruction to the ‘boys in blue’ (Are we a Police State?) to go after a blogger all because of his suggestion of using a well accepted ‘norm and practice’ of a distress call - accepted internationally!

An international observer and retired UN operative who has worked extensively called me to state that my country’s leaders must be insane or totally isolated from the realities on the ground to even suggest what they did!

Yes - we made the international news again - for the wrong reasons!

I am quite certain I am not alone in this point of view!

Perhaps, in future even having ‘a point of view’ which is divergent from the views of our ’self appointed sovereign leaders’ or the nation’s MSM may be harmful!

Perhaps, what is needed is to behave like ‘robots’ or the following idiots (see photos below) - is this an acceptable behavior, ‘truly Malaysian - adat anak keturunan tanah air’ and not despicable, vulgar and a classic example of gutter politics, Prime Minister sir?

And Prime Minister Sir, why have YOU of all persons not said a word about such despicable behavior from members of your own political party?

KEEPING THEM HONEST - IS MALAYSIA NOW A NATION OF HYPOCRITES? AND IS THIS NOT ANOTHER KURANG AJAR BEHAVIOR?

Knowing Malaysian politics and the manner it has been many may not be surprised at the acts of two morons from the Barisan Nasional – a classic case and a photo that by this time would have made a trip round the world which includes various practicing democracies and to individual members of the US House of Representatives! 

Strangely it came after Malaysia’s deputy premier certain references to the behavior of opposition supporters! 

But the facts are there for all to see in this land of proclaimed self righteousness and hypocrisy where nothing is sacred! 

And the result of all these we see in the midst of murders most foul, and allegations of trumped up charges and selective prosecution a scene where local politics has degenerated to an all-time low, judging from the antics of followers or supporters of certain political parties during the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign period. 

I am certain our self righteous leaders would want to know the ‘names of these two pigs’ (oh am I embarrassing pigs for I am certain they are better behaved than these two!) 

What were they hoping to gain right in front of an audience of old, young, family members, wives and children? 

Are these the values of the BN leadership?

What was Barisan Nasional’s message to the people gathered there through the lewd acts of these two morons of the highest order? 

‘Is this the message’ that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Najib and the rest of the Barisan Nasional have for the electorate? 

Should we not be instead discussing issues pertinent to the nation, issues that are close to our rights and interests like where is Malaysia heading to, what is the status of the nations economy, the percentage of unemployment, inflation, how are we planning to handle Globalization, the rising crime rate, failures in education policies and the need for a revamped move towards social justice and to eradicate racism of all forms and kinds! 

I am waiting or the names of these two goons to be published and for the nation’s political leaders who profess to cherish clean and ethical political campaigns to indeed condemn this kind of despicable, vulgar, and rude behavior in a country that claims to follow the highest religious moral values? 

Incidentally where were Malaysia’s moral guardians the ones who go around moralizing and policing social behavior – the ones who knock on doors and break down hotel doors with the TV crews on entourage?

KEEPING THEM HONEST - SWEARING ON HOLY BOOKS - ANOTHER RESPECTED ISLAMIC SCHOLAR AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF INDONESIA SPEAKS OUT!

I was not the lest surprised that former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid, the titular leader of the Nadhlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Muslim social organisation in the world had described as “unislamic” the practice of swearing on the Quran!

The well respected former president, today made a statement that really made Malaysia look rather stupid and ful of hypocrisy in the eyes of the world when he remarked - “I challenge anybody to open the law books of Islam [to prove otherwise],” said the man who is popularly referred to as Gus Dur.

And he has the credentials unlike several of our own politicians and ‘religious pretenders’ who ‘hunt with the hounds and run with the hares’ - the type one calls pure unadulterated hypocrites of the first order!

In this case, this man as I indicated got the credentials as he is after all a graduate in syariah, a qualification he obtained in 1970 from the University of Baghdad!

Gus Dur says that there was no tradition in Islamic law of swearing on the Quran to authenticate the truth of one’s claims.

He described as “unislamic” the action of Anwar Ibrahim’s accuser, Mohd Saiful Azlan Bukhari, who last Friday swore on the Quran in a mosque and in the presence of an Islamic cleric to authenticate his claim that he had been sodomised by Anwar.

And ‘a script’ that is making it rounds in the national media repeatedly making ‘an ass of all of us who call ourselves MALAYSIANS!’

Several foreign diplomat friends of mine just could not believe what certain cross section of Malaysian politicians and ‘their die hard and mentally instable followers’ are indulging just to prevent a political foe from returning to Parliament!

One man is feared so much - I wonder, really why?

This is what this Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan stated:
 

‘I’ve done this for God and I took my oath in the house of God, that I was humiliated and sodomised by Anwar Ibrahim and I do not wish to lie to the world as he has done’ - statement by Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan after swearing on the Holy Qur’an at the Masjid Wilayah at Jalan Duta yesterday, as reported by Malaysiakini.

So as my dear friend Haris Ibrahim noted – Saiful lied to the whole world yesterday!

Yes, indeed he lied ‘without blinking an eye’ – when he replied a reporter’s question to explain how the timing was so close to nomination date for the Permatang Pauh by-election.

As expected this individual replies - It’s all a coincidence. We don’t know that Anwar is going to contest.

Even in this simple reply he was caught using ‘official references or phrase implants – “notably the usage of the phrase – “it’s all a coincidence”

But the fact on print, archives and the mind of law abiding and GOD LOVING MALAYSIANS, not the ones who attempt to use GOD’s name and the Holy Books in man’s shameful political and vice mind games when ever confronted with an allegation be it to a horrific murder or worst still to a political conspiracy to bring down a political opponent!

Saiful – in my book you are a blatant liar!

You lied when you stated that this was a coincidence, that you did not know that and how could it be when in your blog on 2 August Malaysiakini reported that:

Saiful also briefly wished Anwar ‘good luck’ in contesting for the Permatang Pauh by-election’.

I asked many of my Muslim friends – real devout Muslims which includes a ‘father figure to me ‘ – Pak Sheikh from Mecca and they were horrified at all these abuse of the ‘Holy Book’ and the ‘political games thereunto!’

To put it simply – Saiful’s disgraceful attempt on the eve of the nomination only confirms that even the ‘fence sitters’ are NOW CONVINCED that this whole episode is nothing but a shameful example of how in Malaysia we have men and women who will abuse any or everything for a political agenda for the ringgit!

Nothing is sacred!

It is just basic – if we believe in this business of swearing on the Quran or any holy book just to prove our innocence, then we allow a very dangerous precedence to take place in our quest for justice.

As a lawyer I must ask a pertinent question too - Can guilt or innocence be proven by mere words on a Holy Book, and not facts, evidence and solid proof?

Or is this a classic case where only the guilty are desperate enough to turn to a Holy Book for of all things swearing?

Pak Sheikh who is a reputable scholar and he too cites that there are far majority of Ulamaks who do not think it is necessary to use the Holy Book for these kinds of episodes!

I am aware that even thieves, robbers and murderers have a code of honor unlike pariahs like this fellow!

Perhaps some Malays Muslims may be easily swayed by this action, but I am certain the far larger Malaysian demograph will find it hard to swallow, especially when it came in the wake and eve of the Permatang Pauh nominations, where Saiful’s alleged sodomiser, Anwar Ibrahim is a candidate.

The next time – Saiful and the ‘likes of him’ including those behind this conspiracy – please be a little bit smarter – from day one, this has been one ‘comedy of error to another’ in the blatant defiance of logic, fact, flow and of all -intelligence!

Saiful or not – conspiracy or not the fact is that today far greater number of Malaysians from all divides want to see Saudara Anwar Ibrahim make it through with his nomination papers today despite rumors/allegations all around that the alleged ‘bias and government controlled’ Election Commission would be pretty strict to him when he files his documents and win this elections by a landslide!

Today the word has gone around to all true believers of any faith to pray and have prayer vigils in their prayer houses, mosques, temples, churches for Saudara Anwar Ibrahim to win and win by a landslide!

And to make matters worse - PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang regarded Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s act of swearing on the Quran as an act of  Kebodohan (stupidity) which went against the teachings of Islam!

(True but what will the conspirators know about true Islamic teachings when all they care about is an obsession for political power at any costs and greed for all things unholy!)

Hadi continued:

“We don’t have this practice in Islam.

It is the Christians who swear on the bible,” said Abdul Hadi during a press conference at the sidelines of the 54th PAS muktamar in Ipoh today.

MALAYSIA - WHERE ARE WE HEADING?

Can anyone provide information to exactly who this idiot is?

I certainly can use many vulgar superlatives on him but for the moment will refrain!

His body ‘language and movements’ say a thousand words - and - I cannot but wonder what the  policeman behind him is doing during this exchange which is causing fear among the participants? (see pix above)

Thanks to this fool in ‘green and white’ - and another PKR MP, who should be suspended by his party, who shouted out ‘orders and vulgarities’ that indeed break ‘public law and order’ with the assistance of others - which includes, sadly a consumer association (of all NGOs).

Here an attempt was made that derailed an otherwise peaceful and intellectual discourse among a wide group of people on issues that are paramount!

Whats worst - the fiacso was caught on international media and again made Malaysia truly Asia - ‘famous’ just before we hypocritically celebrate our 51st independence day!

The fact remains that after Ambiga Sreenevasan (see pix below) closed the council’s seminar on sedition law yesterday she was asked to comment on suggestions by various parties that the council and herself be held under ISA.

And I am indeed proud to hear of her answer when this rather gutsy Malaysian Bar chief held her ground and said: “What can I say? They have to do their job and they have to do what they have to do and we will just see what happens.”

And I cannot but agree fully with her other observation - an observation that has been made repeatedly in Malaysia as the nation faces an increase in crime unheard or unfelt like before when she remarked  “I’ve said earlier that the police resources are best used fighting real crime,” 

For the record - it is sad that the Bar Council has come under fire over the last two days after hosting a forum entitled “Conversion to Islam: Article 121 (1A) of the Federal Constitution!” 

Anyone with any ‘grey matter’ would know that such forums are meant to discuss issues affecting Malaysians who have had family members who converted.

And as long they are organized professionally and dealt with decorum and respect - it must be facilitated!

And if such forums are called off because of the pressure exerted by ‘thugs and gangsters’ abruptly - I wonder what the future holds in this bolehland?

And I am not surprised that today there are many statements made by ‘irrelevant people and third grade politicians’ - in my mind, all eager apple polishers and hypocrites themselves - all trying to outdo one another and suggesting that Ambiga and the Bar Council be cited under the ISA and Sedition Act for Saturday’s incident.

Good - carry on - make Malaysia more famous than ’Mugabe and Zimbabwee is’ - period and just before our 51st independence day!

And I cannot but wonder why this man is still smiling?

I had thought that after the fiasco initiated by the Tourism Ministry over the manner tourism programs were to be initiated in the country – lessons would have been learnt!

No sir – lessons have not been learnt not after March 8^th and the various bickering, lessons have not been learnt after numerous classic ‘cock-ups’ that reflects that the nation is in distress - lessons have not being learnt - no sir no learnt lessons - only growing arrogance!

And I have always being told by my elders that - ‘arrogance always comes before a fall!’ 

Now we have another stupidity when the five Pakatan Rakyat state governments are excluded from a recent high-powered Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) council meeting and in all fairness the respective governments are demanding an explanation from Youth and Sports Minister Ismail Sabri Abdul Yaakob (see pix above) over the matter.

I cannot but agree that the decision to keep out my birth state Penang, my growing up state till the age of 8 years Kedah, my adopted state for the last 2 decade Selangor, Perak and Kelantan must be severely criticized! 

The embarrassing decision to ‘keep out’ the five states must be addressed and it is a common norm to keep politics out of sporting activities but here again the manner this is being done shows an embarrassing trend and a despicable act! 

We must remember that Sukma is the biggest national sports meet in the country and it is basis knowledge that all Malaysian states irrespective of its political positions or status needing to be invited and present for the development of the nation’s sports! 

What is being done is illegitimate and disturbing and I appeal to the powers that be – to immediately address this anomaly without delay! 

I expect Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to immediately instruct the Sport’s Minister to undo the damage and do the RIGHT THING! 

Let us not continue on this rather despicable road of ‘tit for tat’ and punishing the people for voting in an alternative government! 

Time our politicians grow up and move away from wearing ‘political pampers’ and behaving worst than children!

Persatuan Pengguna & Sosial Daerah Petaling (CAPs) bersama empat (4) buah Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna Negeri Selangor iaitu Persatuan Pegguna Subang Dan Shah Alam (CASSA), Persatuan Pengguna Klang, Persatuan Kebajikan Pengguna Selangor, Persatuan Perlindungan Pengguna Malaysia dengan kerjasama Pejabat Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna Selangor telah menganjurkan Sambutan Hari Pengguna Malaysia Peringkat Negeri Selangor pada 02hb.Ogos 2008 bertempat di Anggerik Mall, Shah Alam. Tema sambutan pada tahun ini iaitu ” Kesederhanaan Menjamin Kesejahteraan”.

Majlis sambutan ini telah dirasmikan oleh Y.Bhg.Dato’ Mohd Zain b. Mohd Dom, Ketua Setiausaha KPDNHEP. Turut hadir menyerikan majlis ini ialah Pn.Mahanitan Bt Abdullah, Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha KPDNHEP.

Perlaksanaan program majlis sambutan ini telah di pengerusikan oleh Y.Bhg. Tuan Mohd Nazri b.Osman, Pengarah Pejabat Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna Selangor.

Belbagai acara telah diadakan iaitu ceramah kepenggunaan yang disampaikan oleh Pn.Nora Hj Mohd Nor, Setiausaha CASSA, penyampaian sijil penghargaan kepada pemimpin-pemimpin Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna, penyampaian hadiah kepada Kelab Pengguna Terbaik, Pameran kepenggunaan yang disertai oleh agensi kerajaan, gerai-gerai jualan barangan pengguna yang disertai oleh pihak swasta serta pertandingan mewarna oleh kanak-kanak Tadika.

Para hadirin turut dihiburkan oleh artis terkenal ND Lala. Wakil Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna Dato’ Dr.Jacob George juga selaku Presiden CASSA turut menyampaikan ucapan aluannya di majlis ini.

Di dalam ucapan beliau, antaranya mengharapkan pihak KPDNHEP dapat memberi pertimbangan supaya bantuan khas untuk menjalankan aktiviti kepenggunaan oleh persatuan pengguna ditambah serta menyeru supaya Majlis Hal Ehwal Pengguna Negeri Selangor dapat diperbaharui bagi memberi peluang kepada wakil-wakil persatuan pengguna yang berpengalaman menganggotai majlis ini.

Beliau juga turut memaklumkan Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna di negeri ini akan melaksanakan aktiviti pemantauan harga menjelang musim perayaan tahun ini mulai bulan puasa akan datang di beberapa kawasan di negeri Selangor.

Beliau turut menyatakan wujudnya kerjasama rapat antara KPDNHEP Selangor dengan Persatuan-persatuan Pengguna di Selangor dan berharap kerjasama ini dapat diperkukuhkan demi perlindungan dan kesejahteraan pengguna.
